Need Help on a Hard Drive Question? I have a ACER 100 mhz pentium with a 1.2 gig HD. Bought a new Western Digital 4.2 Gig HD, loaded it in, formatted with EZ Drive 8.0 into two partitions of 2.1 gig each. Now when I try to install my programs with my CD, I can't because the machine will only recognize my A:\, C:\ and D:\. I can't get it to recognize my CD drive. I put back in my 1.2 gig HD and the machine recognizes my CD drive.

How do I get my machine to recognize my new drive and the CD drive???

Any help is appreciated.

Hi mr.mark

I bought CleanSweep from Quaterdeck, I got it because of the review that I read in CNET. It worked great, perhaps a little too well--it will also search out orphan files and other files it thinks are no longer needed, that was when I made the mistake of deleting a group of .dll files it had identified.

Mental note to myself--"Do not delete .dll files."

mark,

Thanks a lot for the idea and trying to dig it up. Don't you have to have the uninstall utility running at the time the program is installed for it to uninstall the program? I know you're a big fan of Norton Utilities and you like antivirus stuff, but I've gotten along OK without all that stuff so far, and I would just as soon keep things simple -- just personal preference. Also, I'm probably not exposed to a lot of strange virus-carrying emails that perhaps you are.

Furthermore, I'd like to find out if it was something I did (like delete the ie4 backup files as PL postulated) or if it's really something sinister. Now that I think about it, I rather doubt that $Bill would be so bold. Or, would he? After all, there is still that "View As Web Page" issue. Doesn't anyone else find that annoying? And why would there even BE a version that is uninstallable? Does that make any sense? Even if your ie4 files are not backed up you should still be able to uninstall ie5 and go from there. It doesn't make any sense to leave someone stranded -- the situation I'm in -- with no way to correct a browsing problem except to format your drive.

I guess I'll end up re-formatting my Win98 disk if I feel like going back to it (98 that is). For now I'll settle for 95 and see about accomplishing something non-computer related in my life... Ah, life is such a distraction from the really important things...

Thanks again mark,
wily
