>>How much video and 'main' RAM do you have on your machine? This sounds suspiciously like a problem w/video RAM. I experienced something comparable with another piece of software and that was the culprit.<<

My video card is a 6MB 3D card made by Jazz Multimedia who are no longer in business (at least their web-site is no longer accessible). Main RAM is 64MB el-cheapo 66MHz. Running Celeron 300A@66MHz and CAS2.

Note: the problem is almost exclusively limited to after-hours. Very shortly after 4pm I will start having it. Sometimes in the evening and on weekends, however, I don't have the problem.

It doesn't seem to be a function of Free Memory, because it will happen just the same on reboot as after being on a long time. I do monitor Free Memory and CPU Usage with System Monitor. I forgot to add: during the time when the system is hanging, System Monitor shows CPU Usage at 100% and then it drops back down when it unhangs.

If nobody else has the problem I'm beginning to believe that it's a combination of some weakness in my system -- vid card or main memory -- and some change that MB or Townsend makes to their system after the regular market closes. It's just the fact that it happens so consistently that it makes me wonder why I'm the only one...

I'll be upgrading both my vid card and system memory in the near future, so I'll know then and will let you know.

>>I'm on the left coast so that's Friday eve. in Chicago. Starting about a month ago, Townsend takes RT down at that point and the system is unavailable.<<

But it's back up for the weekend, right?

Thanks for your comments. It's great to have a software cognoscentus on the thread.
