Give it a few centuries. It remains to be seen if the Western Europeans can make a go of the European Union. Remember, real political union requires a reasonable degree of consensus, and a sense of solidarity, which is why there are so many groups seeking to secede from existing nations to set up their own, and not merely seeking to leave oppression either. Look at Quebec, the Basque country, the secessionists in Northern Italy, the national movement in Scotland, and the growing sentiment for a split in Belgium, among others. Besides, government, to be responsive, should be as local as possible, and so even in an "world government" framework, the framework for national aspirations would likely continue to exist, and rivalries would ensue. Again, look at Quebec...
