To all shorters. Go to abovenet.com and see what a great company ABOV is and their vision for the future. Global one hop internet is quickly becoming a reality through ABOVENET. Brouse the site, read a few press releases, and check out the management team. When you are finished, you will then be up all night as you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO SLEEP !!! Counting sheep won't work and counting your losses won't help either.

Hey, I have one of those mom and pop business at AboveNet (san jose). We've had a server up there since last October. (Pay $400/month) Technically the reason that abovenet is the place to put your server is because they have more peering arrangements than anyone else, which means fewer hops. If you want to see what I mean, try running traceroute to above.net and then compare it with a traceroute to techstocks.com. (On windows, try start->run and then type "tracert above.net" in the open: box.)

I will say that they have grown tremendously since last october, I'd estimate there are twice as many servers located there now compared to 6 months ago. On the other hand, just about every internet stock is priced too high for me these days, so I'm not holding any ABOV.

Please look at original data from RemarQ "ping" times for technical data. Of course, I cannot be sure who is buying. Those data are only up to date till 12/99 so far. The institutional holdings 1Q/99 will not be out for a while. However, any cursory look on the charts will show that large blocks are trading. These are not the typical daytraders. Only time will tell if Nicholas Applegate, Janus etc. are accumulating--my bet is: they are. The details aren't all that important. That's the best part about this market. Information is available to mostly everyone and we have to use our own judgments!

As for competition, I've read their company statement also. Can you (Hua) tell me who you think are real competition and why and in what time frame you are referring to?
