BOCA RATON, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 8, 1999--Siemens
Information and Communication Networks, Inc. has signed a $200 million
contract with Personal Communications Services (PCS) provider
Omnipoint Communications (NASDAQ:OMPT) for the supply of Siemens GSM
(Global System for Mobile Communications) infrastructure package. The
newly inked deal finalizes the letter of intent signed by the two
companies last December.
Under this arrangement, Siemens will provide equipment and
services for Omnipoint's PCS network for the next several years.
Omnipoint will install Siemens' D1900 GSM Mobile System - including
high capacity switches, base stations and Siemens' Intelligent Network
product INXpress -- to expand its New York network.
"This deal is the next stage of business development for Siemens
in the North American GSM marketplace. By utilizing Siemens' expertise
in GSM, Omnipoint will continue to accommodate its aggressive growth
rates," said Thorsten Heins, vice president and general manager of the
wireless division for Siemens Information and Communication Networks,

BOCA RATON, Fla., April 8 (Reuters) - Siemens Information
and Communication Networks Inc. on Thursday was awarded a $200
million contract to provide equipment and service to personal
communications services provider Omnipoint Communications
(NASDAQ:OMPT).
The deal finalizes a letter of intent signed by the two
companies last December. Under the arrangement, Siemens, a unit
of German-based conglomerate Siemens AG, will supply its GSM or
Global System for Mobile Communications infrastructure package
to Omnipoint Corp.'s wireless operator.
Siemens Information, a provider of information and
telecommunications services and equipment to North American
customers, will provide the services for the next several
years.
