NEW VIDEOCONFERENCING SYSTEM FROM SONY APR 6, 1999, M2 Communications - Sony has introduced a new videoconferencing system designed for small and medium-sized companies. The Sony Contact set-top system, also known as PCS-1500, provides 128Kb/s videoconferencing facilities over ISDN, upgradable to 384Kb/s for better video quality. The product can also be used over local and wide area networks (LANs and WANs) using the H.323 videoconferencing standard for Internet protocol communications. Other features include ease-of-use, high portability and a multipoint facility that enables four users to participate in the same conference, each with an on-screen presence. The system is priced at GBP3,295.
