<Picture>

APR 6, 1999, M2 Communications - AngloGold Ltd, the South African gold producer, says that it expects 1999 to be a difficult year for gold producers, but record offtakes in important gold markets such as India and the US gives it hope for a recovery from low bullion prices. The company is planning to invest US$20m this year to stimulate demand for gold and press for deregulation in key markets, including China. It will also spend US$53m on exploring new gold prospects. (Company statement, 29 Mar 1999; Reuters, 29 and 30 Mar 1999; The Citizen, 30 Mar 1999).
