TP-- The Epicureans believed in a proto- quantum theory sort of free- will--- that there was a random element in the movement of atoms, and that that allowed for free- will. The problem is that when we refer to free- will, we mean "self- determining", not merely "unpredictable", and there is no physical model for a wholly self- determining entity: it either determined, or random, but not per se self- determining. Therefore, free- will, properly understood, leads to a belief in the soul.
