FYI I'm (a) grew up in abject poverty where I used an outhouse and got water from a local stream..if that's not the bottom, find it for me please (b) worked full-time while I went to school full-time to pay my own way through 10 years of college (b) already retired from a six-figure management job at a fortune 500 company, where I started from the bottom. And yes, I was a woman 20 years ago, I was born this way. And you, sir, are clueless. Are things better? yes. Are things a lot better? no.

ahhh.forgive me, I just noticed you were from portland...FYI big cities on the west coast are vastly more progressive than the rest of the country...I've traveled every state and lived in quite a few, traveled abroad, lived in portland long ago, it was always used as a "model city" for its progressive attitudes. I am back on the west coast because it it the only place I can find this "opportunity" you speak of, I was happy to leave the east coast and midwest and don't have much interest in going back.
