I put in a test trade early this morning on a big NASDAQ stock to buy at a limit several dollars below the bid. It appeared on Daily Activity pretty quickly. Then I tried to Cancel it and it took about 4 minutes to cancel.

This can't be blamed on the MM's. This trade would go straight to ISLD since it is so out of the money.

Shortly thereafter, I noticed on the Messages Page a message saying that trade reports were slow.

Clearly Datek was having problems. Datek has been at this for more than 3 years now. They simply should not be having the recurring problems they do. I think they are a prime example of smart guys who got this started but had no experience on how to scale reliable systems. And rather than recognize this and hire appropriate new staff with the necessary expertise, they've just tried to wing it themselves.

Datek, it is time to acknowledge your limitations and recruit people with the experience you lack and make your systems robust. This is a common problem that founders of new companies face, admitting that growing a company often requires different skills than starting one. You have gotten bigger than your current technical staff is capable of handling. Deal with it.
