While you're at it buy some AMD shares. They're really inexpensive too.

Cirruslvr - No, I haven't heard of Am79C978 PCnet-Home single-chip controller

This may be a key point. Intel may have the marketing muscle to get the word out to the masses on technology such as this.

Cringe - Re: "AMD makes the chip, but other companies, like Diamond Multimedia, make the actual product."

I'm sure Intel's is better.

Better to buy from one integrated manufacturer.

You understand.

<I suppose you haven't heard of the Am79C978 PCnet-Home single-chip controller made by your FAVORITE company in the world - AMD!?>

AMD said that they are going to focus on microprocessors. Where does that leave their other endeavors, like this AMD network controller?

Meanwhile, Intel's fastest-growing business is in networking products. Quite a contrast to the axe-bait of AMD's networks division.

Sounds like Gateway hasn't heard of the AMD chip either.

Or else, they prefer Intel .
