Steve,

<"Let's kill Intel" Mantra, instead of the let's make some
money phiosophy>

Bingo! And this is because they have been lead by a nut case, i.e. Jerry (my best friend in the whole world <gg>).

Management's philosophy of taking Intel head on and initiating a price war in which they vowed to stay 25% below Intel's price has produced the exact type of results anyone with a grade school understanding of markets could have predicted.

In addition to an inherently flawed marketing/sales strategy management has also consistently over stated what they can deliver and when. In doing this over and over again they have lost credibility with investors as well with the IT business community. Finally, they have repeatedly mislead investors. At first it was rather qualitative and AMD investors were willing to believe Jerry when he said that "next quarter would be better". But now even some of AMD's strongest supporters are suing the company due to blatant misrepresentations including how many CPU's were shipped in Q4 and how yield problems were largely behind them. Clearly, this will be settled out of court as AMD really has no defense.

What should they have done?? They should have looked for niches and been content to grow with the industry while nibbling slightly at market share. Intel has done quite nicely over the last several years and their market share has been essentially flat to slightly down. AMD got greedy and stupid because Sanders is an egotistical maniac who really believed that AMD would be "the next Intel".

I could go on and on...but what the heck....I don't want to bad mouth management too much. After all, I owe much of my personal wealth to their stupidity and ineptness. I do LOVE Jerry!!!
