Fred, re:Bingo! And this is because they have been lead by a nut case, i.e. Jerry (my best friend
in the whole world <gg>).

Actually, AMD/Jerry Sanders will make a great Harvard business case study of how NOT to run a company. As you point out, he has made all the classic mistakes. By far, one of the WORST performing CEOs, by almost any metric. Watching Intel outmanage AMD over the past several years is like watching someone tease a cat with a string of yarn <gg>

Re: "Clearly, this will be settled out of court as AMD really has no defense."

Funny. My understanding of the facts is that the lawyers have very little case and are just trying for a quick payoff, as is the case in most of these suits.

Fred,

management has also consistently over stated what they can deliver and when.

In the past twelve months AMD has delivered 300 MHz, 333, 366, 400, 433, 450, 475, 3DNow!, K6-2, K6-2CXT, K6-III, and will soon deliver 500 MHz K6 and 600 MHz K7 way ahead of schedule. This is far beyond what was promised or what anyone could have imagined. In contrast, Intel's much larger design teams have delivered almost nothing of interest during the same period.

Your hatred of AMD blinds you to the truth.

Fred,

There isn't much that I can say in response to a post which agrees with mine, that isn't just overkill.

I think (to agree with you) that AMD should have been a little less agresive and a little less public with their 25% less pricing policy. The minute people hear something like that they inherently (and usually incorrectly) draw the conclusion that the cheaper part is somehow less 'capable' than the more expensive part.

For the majority of applications in existance today, AMD's part are as capable with Intel's parts. Each have their strong points and weak points, but comming out and saying "25% less", makes people think inferior..

This is just another example of why I strongly dislike AMD's management. If AMD had been smart they would have priced at %5 off Intel and done so privately... If they had done that they might be making money now, as opposed to losing it hand over fist.

REgards,

Steve

PS. I hate Intel.. but at least they can show a profit.
