Mike: With due respect - and you have not only that but my admiration for your analytical prowess - you are still at an early stage on the learning curve re 3rd generation CDMA, hence your misunderstanding re 3 mode phones. At the outset, let's stipulate that "no one knows yet" is the best answer so far. :-) You need to be careful of your source. Objective analysis is hard to come by on this subject, especially since Ericsson has been feeding disinformation along with food to media outlets for years. Suggest your source suffers from that problem. To say the phones themselves, the boxes, will start out with a menu of choices is a given. Gradually choices will be made to narrow down the number. As of now though, I stand by my statement that the least likely surviving phone will be one that includes the three technological modes - CDMA, GSM and TDMA. This view is admittedly arrived at by long, long attempts to learn on the Q thread. It is the Q view therefore, not the Ericsson view (or the Ericy view fed through the media which has been in Ericy's pocket) Suggest you do further research. Best personal regards, Chaz too
