Hmmm. Here in Portland, Or., US West offers 8Mb service, and GTE (my phone company) will be offering 8Mb service any day now.

I wish it was that simple. There's a lot of issues that can determine your maximum speed - distance from the CO, quality of the lines, etc.

I'm also in Portland (well, Tigard) with GTE service. I live about 1 mile from the CO in a new development. The maximum speed I was able to get was 384K/384K. But I'm not going to complain too loudly :).
