Dave,

<< In addition if you did buy something else in Oct and want to use that money to now buy QCOM you have to pay short term cap gains.. quite a bummer. >>

Yes ... Bummer, but for "seasoned citizens" this is the beauty of trading in a tax deferred account ;~). Goodbye NOK.A (and Thank You), Hello QCOM <ggg>.

Good paragraph in support of keeping the handset division. KEEP IT!

Dave, first of all, congratulations on your vision about Q, which is apparently coming true (disclaimer: I'm invested, but not spending the profits yet!). But Q is not the company it was in October - it's prospects have been dramatically changed by the Ericsson capitulation. You and others on the Q thread may have "known" that was going to happen, but I have been 100% sure about several "story stocks" that have gone on to prove me wrong (and reduce my net worth dramatically).

>>In addition if you did buy something else in Oct and want to use that money to now buy QCOM you have to pay short term cap gains.. quite a bummer.

Not necessarily true, Dave. I put my money into aol in that timeframe, and have received a 255% return. In addition, I (and many others on this thread) am investing in a sheltered account (ira), so taxes aren't a consideration, only broker fees of 14.95/trade.

Bottom line, congratulations on your returns, but there have been many other ways to make money in this market other than investing in Q.

Frank

I didn't copy all this stuff out to show you what a genius I am.

Hey,Dave, you're a Genius! The people that just got in haven't been setting with their money in CD's, waiting for an investment, we have been in AOL, Yahoo, etc, and making a buck over there while you were waiting for QCOM to move. The point is, we are here now.

I still would like to see the phone division sold. They really have no edge that I can see with that division, and the margins are too thin. If they were just making the "guts", like Intel, they would at least be able to sell everybody.

I know the company well enough to know that their main problem is getting enough people to handle the growth, and I would like to see them concentrated on the "Hot" end, rather than on production a phone that someone else can make just as well and sell cheaper. Look at IBM and the PC.

For those who didn't see my response in the other thread to Dave's great post ...

===============

Dave,

Yes but I think people who owned the stock felt that this "value" was already there, locked in if you will...

In that context, I understand your point entirely. For those who were so convinced of the fundamentals that the value was locked in, your point is irrefutable in my mind.

As I continued reading the rest of your LONG post, it got better and better. Thanks for taking the time to put your thoughts originally brought out in our mini debate in such complete context.

And for those who don't know who the Mike B. is that was quoted disagreeing with you, you and I know it is ...
