Sounds like our Thanksgiving family reunion.

O.H. and Ron--I vaguely recall that a couple of months ago (perhaps as early as late fall '98) an international pilots association began lobbying for genuine contingency planning when it became clear that some air traffic control systems, airlines, airports and ground support systems just weren't going to be done by rollover. Of course the asso. pointed to Third World countries as the reason for the concern, but I imagine some pilots had the heebie-jeebies regarding a few first and second world airport situations as well. Reducing the number of flights, spacing flights and curtailing travel were some of the recommendations that the asso. put forward. I'll scour my files and favorites to see if I can dig up some text or a link.

Oh, boy! More Ronaldretorts to slice and dice up!
I imagine that if there were serious disruptions that required a transition to more manpower oriented systems management, there are going to be more than a couple of unemployed and displaced workers out there
....,Priceless! "more than a COUPLE"...he-he...that means at least 3!
Please quantity this so I/we can understand some possible chain of reasoning here..

I'm not predicting this scenario by any means.
....which 'senario' in your statement do you fear to stand up for, Ron? 'serious disruptions'? 'a transition'? the laughable situition of 'more than a COUPLE...'?

I'm mainly trying to deal with the issues of critical infrastucture upon which the rest of our society and economy depend.
.......please inform me/us of EXACTLY how you are 'trying to deal' with them. What exactly are you doing?

If we get to the point where the sheer necessities of economic life are disrupted, those industries will have national precedence in any recovery scenario.
......Traitor! To have realized this, you may have started reading North (in the closet)! Actually, upon a second reading, I think you may have confused cause and effect for effect and cause...Please re-think this one thru again and make it clearer as far as causational flows.

What I'm mainly relying upon is the belief that once identified, any Y2K related faults can be worked around (especially given the amount of work-arounds that occur on a daily basis with systems due to non-Y2K related faults.)
.....Oh? By "any", are you implying 'all'? If not, please specify which ones are within this senario and which would potentially be excluded.
The more important point you have grossly overlooked in this wonderfully inspiring belief, is how, exactly, this would be done, with multiple malfunctions (that do not happen during the 'normal' times)occuring simulataneously, at many different places, to preclude resources from being shipped in as they can/are during normal times?
Can you not differentiate conditions for fixes during normal times and in times of multiple, simultaneous shutdowns/malfunctions/disasters occuring locally, regionally, nationally, internationally? Apparently not, as you use this same argument, ad naseum, in using your totally unrealistic 'happy-face' senario as a buttress against any and all facts, grim reports, and logical senarios entering into your consciousness.

As for airports... you may have something there. The primary concern of the air traffic control system is the safe and orderly managment of an enourmous number of flights. How can the FAA or local airports work around those problems?? Can they space out flights and reduce the number of actual flights to carry only people on crucial business as opposed to pleasure trips?
.......You have touched upon but a very minute number of serious questions they must solve...so this shows a little awareness on your part...encouraging, Ron! Now, the next step is for you to apply the same reasoning here to any other sector of society.....'Try it...you'll like (in Ron's case, na....) it!'

I was reading that the Dulles airport (or was it Washington National?) was having problems with their radar system and having to rely upon its backup. This happened 3 times in one week, with each event apparently caused by an unrelated glitch.
......Ron, if you spent enough time studying reports, you will know that it happened at others also. The more you study, the more you will learn, and thus, impress others! In any case, how do you prove, or disprove, any were caused by an unrelated glitch?????
I know! Your pollyanna mind-set automatically wants it to be, and thus it always will be--- unrelated to y2k!!!! A great standard for making a conclusion!

Planes are still flying....
.......Award to Ron for the most profound statement of the day...month..year?

And being prepared and calm headed about this entire issue is far better than adopting Ken's current mindset
......We now must know Ron's definition of being prepared, which I discussed in my last nite's post.
Let me guess here, and be on record for assessing Ron's personal preparations!!!!
Since you refuse consistently to respond to my hard questions about y2k, maybe you will at least this time grace me with a reply of whether the following are your personal preparations for y2k....
1. 5 tv dinners, 4 of maracroni and meatballs, 1 of cheese enchiladas,
2. 6 hamburger helpers,
3. 2 arrowhead qt. bottles,
4. 150 pds of beef, for when electricity comes back on, with a cardboard box to store them in,
5. 200 gallons of gasoline in containers, stored in your bedroom,
6. 1 tube of Brylcream,
7. 10 new cds of rap music,
8. one new pair of socks,
9. back-up water- 30 liters of coca-cola,
10. 30 cans of spam,
11. 1 extra toothbrush,
12. 5 boxes of Wheaties, breakfast of champions!

How's that list of your emegency preparations, Ron?
Pretty accurate, isn't it?

. In fact, I'm almost to the point of writing to Websters
.....then, why don't you instead of this nothing fluff statement of "i'm almost at the point..."

and recommending that replace the word panic and despair with the word "Kendemonium".
.....Kinda like 'Fernandomania' a few years back! '--monium', Ron?
Please revise to a more 'sizzle' sounding word!

Ah, shucks, I have run out of 'RancidRonaldisms' to slice apart! Too bad, but I'm sure you busily at work feverishly composing your next amusing lot to try to make up for your most current losses!
