Let's talk TIRES!

I know that with tires, ya pretty much get what ya pay for. Cheap tires are just plain nasty to drive on and any true "car guy" can tell the difference in the ride and handling. I put my summer tires back on and I could tell right away by the handling that the tire pressures weren't set right (just a few PSI out but visually they even looked OK). My tires have 1/32" of tread before starting into the wear bar indicators so they will be good for probably a few months yet, at least in the dry.

Does anyone have any experiences with the new long-life tires? I know it's generally (always?) a compromise between performance and longevity but.... can one expect to actually enjoy driving with these tires for this many miles, or do they ride forever like big hockey pucks? Would any self-respecting "car guy" buy these tires for their own vehicle, or are they typically destined for "the wife's car"?

The Michelin X-One has a 6-year unlimited mileage limited treadlife warranty (unusual use of english there?).
