Dear Greg: I ONLY buy Michelin tires. Here's two reasons: (1) My wife has nearly 100,000 miles on her set on her Jeep Cherokee and they STILL have plenty of tread left which is pissing me off as I want to get new ones but too cheap to throw out tires with good tread (2) My son has AT LEAST 60,000 miles on his Michelin tires on his Acura Legend and they are JUST NOW getting close to the tread wear indicator. Now, we rotate and balance our tires every 2nd oil change and make an effort at least to keep them inflated up to their maximum capacity which is 35psi. Other than that--nothing special. JDN

Sorry I am still stuck with the Avons that came on the car, although I've heard they have some retro looking radials.

Greg-I bought a set of Dunlop D-65's for my Nissan truck as an alternative to the more expensive Michelin 80,000-mile tire. As you noted," milage" tires have some deficiencies compared to
" handling" tires, but I was well satisified. I have since installed them on my wife's 626, and will put them on my new Nissan truck when the original Firestones get thin.

I just found out last night that my brother's roommate has the Toyo 800 Ultra tires on his car and he loves them.

And the Michelin X-One has also received some excellent comments.

So I guess both of the long-life tires that I was looking into have good reviews, proving that tire technology has come a long way indeed and that you can have a long-life tire that is also quite responsive.
