CSCO is acquiring two companys, with technology capable of transporting circuit-based
private line services across packet-based ATM networks.

NN has been shipping circuit-emulation on on its 36170 for at least two years, and has dominant position int his area. On the Femruary CC Alan mentioned, on requiest of Paul Silverstain from Banc Boston, that NN is doing circuit-emulation on ATM for AT&T, among others.

Looks like CSCO hype about QoS voice over IP is they only imagination. They can not even offer voice over IP on their own campus.

I doubt they will have good technology in this area.It is very ,very difficult to overcome very fundamentals shortcomings, if they were not planned into ATM platform since the begining.

Ship first, fix later CSCO LAN strategy will never work with large carriers.
