taxman, Dell said it had signed up a new corporate customer -- clothing retailer Burlington Coat Factory Warehouse Corp. -- to buy 1,250 desktop PCs running Linux as its operating system software.

However, it was at the expense of Unix providers like Sun Microsystems. It was an existing Unix customer. Here is the story on it, explaining why this sale is not at the expense of Microsoft.

taxman: I see Linux making a dent in UNIX platforms just as much or even more so than NT. How many retail programs will run on Linx. I am sure that Linux will help MSFT more than hurt as now MSFT can point to the marketplace doing its job. Essentially Linux doing the same thing in OS that MSFT did in browsers. If Jackson can't se it Appeals definitely will.
