Now the IT group all of a sudden has enormous power again because of Y2K. So let's throw the wieght around and start using some military terms like "lock down". I bet some IT types are having a field day out there.

Raptor,

I believe you have this backwards. IT staffs are trying to convince upper management and systems users that Y2K is a manageable problem and that a total lockdown is not required. Good IT shops will have their Y2K remediation work done well before 12/31/1999 and do not want to just sit around on their hands for six months with nothing to do.

It is the upper management types and the users who are panicking and calling for a lock down. They are much more prone to worry about an Armageddon-type scenario than the people who work with the software everyday.

Tom

>>IT (or Systems as it was then known) used to rule the roost. "Yes you can have this" ; "NO, you can't have that". They dictated software, projects, purchases, implementations - you name it.<<

Reminds me of saddam! Most IT folks remind me off people like castro and gadafi. I guess we all want to feel important in an organization, but I have never met an IT professional I never had the urge to choke yet at ANY company.
