I don't think you understand what a soldier's life is all about. Almost never does a soldier know the facts about the cause for which he's fighting. He can't afford to care about things like that. If he signed the contract he agreed to obey lawful orders even to the death. The operative word is honor. The Marine motto is "Semper Fideles" -- always faithful, not "sometimes when we feel like it faithful". The ultimate faith of the soldier, as students of World War II (S.L.A. Marshall specifically) found, was the loyalty of man to man. As FSgt Jones, USA, said in "The Siege of Firebase Gloria" (caught putting up a flag on the CP) -- "I don't care a lot for all of it, but what I care for, I care for a lot." Given this logic, it doesn't matter the nationality or the war a soldier dies in, it matters that he is honorable and died fighting for the men on his left and right flank.
