Even just a couple of months ago, a rather prominent SI figure who I used to highly respect asked this question:

"If you had to hold the purchase for five years, would you buy IBM or CSCO?" The problem being that in the context he clearly intended the question as rhetorical, in order to "demonstrate" the overvaluedness of CSCO.

I should have told him I would honestly take the CSCO, but instead I just walked away and bought some CSCO. (The same guy was bearish on AMZN and YHOO through all of 1998, so it's not as if this was an isolated thing.)
