This may be a reason. From Yahoo: messages.yahoo.com The msg also caused one of those hot steaming coller exchanges here: messages.yahoo.com and here: messages.yahoo.com I'm very glad that we are civilized on SI... but that said, I for one still do NOT understand the reaction unless the Yahoo poster is right. Thoughts?

Otter, My past experience (not including this VLSI takeover) with these types of takeovers are never what they seem. The news items currently being submitted to the press are cordial, but not impressing investors. They don't tell the truth of what is happening. My experience tells me to watch out for what is NOT being stated, which led me to sell all of my stock. I believe the talks are going to start getting nasty and threats will start flying. This doesn't help the investor, and I believe the future news will state "talks have ended and VLSI will not be acquired by Phillips" Just my perspective.
