Dear Chris: You dont suppose that SUNW will sit still and allow this to happen. There likely would be a price war etc etc and both companies would suffer. Better situation would be if INTC works WITH SUNW which I am hopeful is what this is about. JDN

The IA64 VLIW architecture has some inherently dangerous features to it. It allows user code to do instruction scheduling.

It has not been proven that it is possible to build a safe system/network architecture around IA64. There will be many, many issues to resolve before IA64 can move into Sun's market space.
