Educator, What do you think the positive sub number should be for April 15? Is 500,000 on the mark? Or the street is expecting more?

Jing- You read my mind exactly. I believe anything over 500,000 is positive. I will personally be a little disappointed if we fall below that number. 500,000 is what I would like to see @Home meet or beat. As to what the street expects...who knows. Maybe they don't have a magic number. I suspect the street is looking for growth that at least can match @Home's past pace.
If my recollection is right, didn't @Home have around 50,000 the first quarter of '98? I owned the stock at that time, and it seems they were around that number. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. They were able to take it to 331,000 by year-end, so I think 500,000 is attainable. The more you do something, the faster you become. I would hope the installers have improved their speed with time and practice. Maybe they even have some incentive. They should have incentives! Also, let's not forget that there have been improvements in the installation procedure.

As for the TCI thing today, I am not overly concerned. I want that number on the 15th to be good! We can really party if that baby is high!

I'm going to take an offbeat stance here and remind you all that in fact the current subscriber numbers that we focus so hard on have very little to do with the long term success of @home, and current earnings mean far less still.
Subscriber numbers today measure the cable co's ability to hire installers, not the future popularity of the service.
What really counts now? Maybe total homes passed, more I'd like to see how @home and DSL service compete in the same space. And the really big unknown that is truely the future of @home? advertising revenues!
