Lucent rumors swirl around 3 assemblers and Sanmina.

The best candidates for the Lucent business is the guys who handle a lot of telecom/networking business (like the guys who build Ascend's stuff, even after Ascend's acquisition by Lucent.

Based on who already makes telecom/nteworking equipment, I expected Jabil, Sanmina, Solectron, Flextronics, and Celestica were the leading candidates for Lucent outsourcing, in that order. These guys also are the guys who could take on the sizeable contracts implied by the huge amount of Lucent outsourcing coming.

It somewhat odd though, the rumors seem to be bypassing Solectron,... and JBL, CLS, and FLEX seem to be the most likely targets in the rumors. I didn't expect CLS or FLEX to be playing a bigger role than SLR. Sanmina will probably pick up some board and backplane/backpanel business.

In any case, I would be really surprised if Jabil didn't get a big chunk of this business. They have set up their company system primarily to tackle the types of equipment that Lucent designs and builds.

Hope this answers your question.
