George: I would differ with your comment that volatility has increased in the recent past. Dollar value certainly but what about percentage?

I would position myself as one who thinks the volatility has not increased as much as it could.

Add up all the influences - the increased visibility from the media, increased participation of individuals through self directed IRAs and 401Ks, herd and panic mentalities, the exponential increase in transaction speed for the man on the street (and Wall Street itself) brought on by computers and the Internet - Things could be a whole lot worse than they are.

I just like this thread and you people are a lot of fun to talk to.

George, haven't you noticed by now that the answers you get are not in fun? This thread takes a lot of time to get though, and I like to run it to see what is going on with Q.

Your constant bear postings don't give me any information I want, and cause many angry posts back to you. I seems like, right now, you, and the answers to you, are 25% of the thread.

We have a guy like you on the Cisco thread and he has ruined it. All the people I liked to discuss Cisco with have given up in disgust.

I have the new browser, and I am going to put you in "coventry" by putting you on "ignore" Your posts will no longer open up, but I can't do anything about the responses to you.

I know you are enjoying yourself, but it is very rude to keep making these repetitive posts here when you are not wanted. Please show some good manners and take your comments to a thread where they will be appreciated.

George,

"the stocks are going from 15 to 70 on the first day. I hate to burst you bubble, but if that isn't a warning sign then what is "

George, your interpretation is completely wrong.
With most high tech IPO's, the emission price may be $10 for example, but the opening price is $50, and if it's an interesting candidate it may close a few dollars higher. This ploy is common practice. It serves a) to fill the coffers of the merchant bank responsible for the floating, and b) provides much needed capital to the fledgling company
(who probably holds a very sizable chunk of the common stock)
This has nothing to do with the state of the market or the economy
