he is correct, in that the article was referring to desktop computer sales in 1998, not total PC sales, which also include their segments of notebooks and servers.

In arguing these points, it's important to make sure what dataset we're working off (like emachines market share in retail PC sales vs market share in total PC sales).

with all that said, last year was at best flat for total PC revenues, from what I can gather.
