A small technical correction to an otherwise-excellent assessment:

"because nobody except SASOL has a commercial GTL plant running and they use iron."

Technically, RNTK produced a commercial GTL plant a number of years ago. It worked on a commercial scale, but was subsequently shutdown because the gas supply failed.

If memory serves, the gas supply was to have been methane from a civic dump, but somebody at the client end screwed up and the dump was found to produce far less methane as they originally had predicted.

RNTK's catalyst is iron-based.
