EL..This sucks.
Steve

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 9, 1999--Compaq Computer
Corporation (NYSE: CPQ.N) announced that, based on preliminary analysis
of its results for the quarter ended March 31, 1999, it expects to
report results below analysts' estimates. Based upon a $9.4 billion
revenue estimate and a less favorable sales mix, the Company now
expects to report a profit of approximately $.15 per share.
"The quarter's shortfall reflects lower than anticipated market
demand and increased competitive pricing in the commercial PC sector,"
said Earl Mason, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
These statements regarding estimated results are preliminary. The
Company expects to announce its final results on April 21, 1999.

Business Outlook

"While market conditions will continue to be competitive, we
fully intend to expand our business and grow market share profitably
in 1999," said Eckhard Pfeiffer, President and Chief Executive
Officer. "We will roll out our enterprise strategy next week as 4,500
customers join us in Houston for Compaq's Innovate 99. The Company
will continue its aggressive drive of reduction of cost and operating
expenses in the face of a very competitive market."

They also announced they are laying out some new corporate strategy next week. I speculated earlier today they may bring AV back to life to offset revenue disappointments. Regardless, depending on what they have to say going forward, I think a lot of this disappointment is built in. Let's see what happens.

If CPQ goes down to 23, that may be a good place to take a partial position for a long term trade. If you are looking short term, things may be bleak for a while. By the way, CPQ used the same trick last time they missed. They made the announcement after the close on a Friday.

El, I think you're on the money with 23-25 price! I bought 30 puts 2 weeks ago to cover myself for this day, and sold out more than half my position last week. Did you ever see such creeps running a company. I'm part of the last class action suit in February. There probably will be a few more law suits here. What lying B......ds EP and EM. How about bringing in Clint Eastwood for a HANGEM' HIGH!! Unreal 2 months!

Howie

P.S.-They're was actually some real buying of CPQ today!

Hello Y'all,

Just thought I'd mention that CPQ was discussed on Wall $treet Week
and was actually recommended. I didn't get the analyst's name but
he stated that CPQ was a good buy under $30.00 (I know, I know,
he has his chance). He didn't seem devastated about CPQ's
announcement and would buy. I will try to find some reference later
and post it.

Dear El: THIS LOOKS LIKE FRAUD to me. No way they would not have known they were going to miss the numbers when its off THIS MUCH. Only holding to try and get piece of IPO action. Frankly, I will no longer trust current management and do not wish to be associated any longer with them. JDN
