>>What bearing will CPQ number have on the market Monday?

It will likely affect all the boxmakers, especially at the open. An analyst on CNBC was commenting that CPQ was going to be dead money (IMHO due to the slow warning) at $24 for awhile.

It occurred to me that a quick fix strategy would be to shift ponys while the news was affecting all the boxmakers. I mean, if CPQ, DELL, GTW, AAPL and IBM all take a hit, the others will likely spring back assuming they each come out with respectively strong ERs. Therefore, it stands to reason that a CPQ investor who would like to dodge the bullet sufficiently enough to minimize damage would do well to jump saddle to another horse DURING THE STAMPEDE. The question then becomes, "Which pony gives the best opportunity for the quickest recovery?"

My preference would be AAPL due to the proximity of its ER, its P/E and the stock price. There's also the fact that Apple is already shipping an as yet unannounced iMac refresh to 333 mhz and has an iMac like portable in development.

If this sounds like a pitch for AAPL, then so be it. I'm long. But, I have friends who are caught in the CPQ quicksand, and this is the advice I'm giving. Whether or not it is a good strategy depends on how hard the other boxmakers get hit along with CPQ, and on how they bounce back. Granted, a wrong move in execution could be costly. That's another good reason to use AAPL. The ER is after the bell on Wednesday. If AAPL was going to warn, they would have already done so.

An alternative might be to shift into the IPO ZDZ, closed at 38 1/2, and hope that it sees 55 again by the 26th when its 25 day quiet period ends.

Good luck,
HerbVic

CPQ's announcement will most likely trash the tech stocks on Monday. Hopefully there is some good news out there on Monday or Tuesday or this could be a VERY rough week coming up.
