Re: Small cap funds

I know there are some larger companies in BARAX, but it seems that "small cap fund" has started performing nicely. It's doing much better than my MNMCX (yes, I'm still holding that one.)

By the way, the merging of small cap funds (to hide fund family underperformance?) is not limited to US funds. Invesco is trying to merge their small company Europe fund into their regular European fund. After the small cap funds did so well in the early 90's the fund families started offering more and more small cap funds of many different flavors. That was just in time for the multi-year stretch of large cap out-performance that we've seen for the past several years. Perhaps the recent consolidation in the small cap funds is a signal of the dawning of an era of small cap leadership.

Best wishes,

I2

Marc: "IF THE RUSSELL 2000 IS LOADED UP WITH INTERNET STOCKS THAT HAVE STAYED IN THE INDEX EVEN THOUGH THEIR MARKET CAP HAS SOARED BECAUSE THEY ONLY REBALANCE YEARLY THEN HOW ON EARTH COULD THE RUSSELL BE DOING SO CRAPPY? SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME WHAT I AM MISSING HERE."

I guess about 1900 of the other companies not in the top ten are going woof, woof, woof like that group of dogs that sings jingle bells during the holiday season.

Nice issue of MarketTimer. Very well done.

BINGO! I have been thinking the same thing. What the hell would the performance numbers be if CMGI et al weren't in the calculation.
