Any thoughts on the next monopoly frontier, when MS starts bundling its video and audio players with IE 5.0? The new Windows Media Player should be announced on April 14 at the Internet World convention in Los Angeles.

Its more important than ever that another competitive browser option exists. As we see, IE now becomes yet another MS delivery mechanism for MS only software. The next step of course is to make the Media Player incompatible with RealPlayer and other packages and ... well you know the rest.

Hi Dan,

I had an interesting observation yesterday while looking at a computer catalog.

There were the Windows CE machine from HP and the Palm device from 3Com on the same page. The HP/MSFT offering looked like a toy, with colored buttons and a garish windows screen. The Palm device looked like a tool, with what appeared to be more of a text-based interface.

It does seem to me that MSFT favors graphics over text; "style over substance," if you will.

FWIW
