The state of Merced: "even HP isn't writing off the future of high-end 64-bit RISC systems, not the least of which is its own Precision Architecture-RISC-based systems. "There's a lot of life left to RISC," flatly declares Barry Crume, HP's product marketing manager. He then recites the HP RISC road map: "Next year we'll see the PA-8600; the PA-8700 will ship sometime in 2000/2001, and we have announced that we will bring out the PA-8800 and PA-8900 in four to five years."
