John, I think the use of "discount" was meant in terms of discounting the event, not the price of the stock. For example, if the sales of pc are going to pick-up in 2000, the company's stock price will rise in 1999 as the future impact of the event is accounted for in the market.

Not sure I'm clear in my explanation. I too, think there is a better term to use than "discount". Think I'll quit while I'm ahead. <ggg>

John, since we've discussed my predictions that DELL would have to enter the sub-$1,000 area in a major way to meet MD's goal of 40% PC penetration, I thought you might want to read the following CNET article, quoting Carl Everett of Dell:

Dell is now gearing up to marshal all of its manufacturing and marketing strengths to enter in the sub-$1,000 market in force, he said. The Celeron technology, along with Intel's upcoming Whitney chipset, which integrates a graphics processor, will allow "desktops to get much smaller and eminently more serviceable," he said.

I'll get back to you in six months (or sooner it is beginning to appear) on the other related questions we discussed.
