Gary, I believe at the time I made referance to the fact that sub-1000 has a different definition than it had (even one year ago)...

What was sub-1000 a year ago, is now sub-600...

Dell (still) really does not attract (or try to attract) first-time users on price....that is a loser's game, and Dell is smart not to play.

Before, Dell (obviously) could not figure out a way to make a decent return on a low-end unit. Now, with the full-range Celerons, Dell is offered an opportunity (Dell did not want to get involved with AMD, and has held out, and, apparently a wise decision)..

You are right that Dell needs to have an offering(s) in the sub-1000 category, but it is only (really) one piece of the growth puzzle...I don't think this category is anymore important (for long-term growth) than being successful with their storage strategy, or server/workstation, or international expansion (China/Brazil), etc...

Thanks for your thoughts..
