Chuzzlewit, I am going to hold you to your word:

You have been so good about sharing your thoughts on these issues that I will no longer complain when you wish to interview me.

Will you also promise not to be quite as slippery an interviewee as you have been in the past? Well do I remember a long exchange on how to estimate discounted future free cash flow. When finally pinned to the mat, you revealed that there was no way a rank amateur like myself would ever be able to do the calculations.

Since then,I have come to the conclusion that none of this stuff I tried so hard to bone up on is of much use in the market today, anyway. I have also concluded that buy & hold is a mug's game. (I held on, despite misgivings, to stocks like SCI and CPQ, only to have them reward me by assassinating my entire portfolio.) And, in view of the fact that I do not have the temperament of a trader, or the time to follow every individual stock I own 24 hours a day, I have gradually been transferring all my money into mutual funds (and doing much better). Let the pros, like yourself, have the headache!

Nevertheless, I do think I will flit over to your Internet Analysis thread one of these days, and see if I can get you to explain some of that ouch, my head! terminology you use. Deal?

Joan
