Frank,

Do you know of a website that offers analysis for calling plan prices and features for the wireless carrier industry?

Thank you and Bernard and others for your wonderful insights into this maelstrom of communications transitioning.

regards,

stephen

Frank, what is this all about?
exchange2000.com
I followed the link and it seems they have had no news for over a year.

Looks like a joke to me. Do you see something more?

TIA,
Teddy

Frank, I have taken the liberty of copying your weekend post over to the PairGain thread, where a little discussion of Covad was going on. I thought it was especially rewarding reading. Would you mind commenting more on one of your statements:

If the ILECs wait out only one more generation of DSL infrastructure, then the new unit level economies will be heavily skewed in their favor, leaving some of the present startups with some heavy baggage to carry on their books going forward.

In particular, how do you define the generations, in terms of equipment and their ability to handle quantity of traffic and different types of traffic? (I'm thinking in particular of how this will relate to prospects for PAIR's Avidia chip that they are now in the process of qualifying among the clecs and ilecs).

Second question: I read over the weekend--but now can't find the reference--that cablecos' implementation costs were half of dsl's, which will give them a permanent edge in the residential market. I found this surprising--and suspicious. My understanding had been that the cablecos have to place their boxes in the equivalent of co's just the way the lec's do, and espcially with the evolution of splitterless dsl, the rollout problems of the lec's were minimized. Care to comment?

Third question (as long as I'm thinking of these things): The assertion has been made (again, I don't remember where, but it was on a thread) that dsl is a mature technology that can't go much further. I find this a curious statement as well--since technologies in general have not proven to "mature-out" recently. Comment?

Thanks as always, and Best,
John
