May I ask what is your connection speed with your cable hookup? I know they are supposed to be super-fast (like mine) but I have heard that some barely go faster than a 56K.

Thanks,
wily

Yes, I also get disconnected at least 2 times a day, on average. There have been days with no disconnect, but there also have been days when I get disconnected 5 times. Recently, it also crashes my computer - blue screen of death, once a day. I have cable modem, Win 98, PII 450 MHZ, 128 SDRAM, fast 14 GB HD - and I only run a bare bones CyberT software on it while trading.

I talked to tech support and was told that they've had trouble with cable modem users, and he blamed it on the cable providers. I'm with MediaOne. Funny, I never seem to have a problem with any other site. I also trade with Datek on a separate computer and modem. I've never had Datek crash my computer, or disconnect, since I've traded with them - over a year (OTOH, they used to have "busy servers", which made trading not possible). As an experiment, I tried switching my Datek trading to my Cyber computer with the cable modem, and no problem at all - put Cyber back on, and the problems are there. So, I don't buy their "it's your cable provider's problem" line. Also, I take special measures to minimize the bandwidth pressure - I use only one stock box (one stock - usually MSFT), only ONE chart, and MarketView with two quotes: $COMPX, and $INDU. That's IT. No Hi-Low, Top Ten, nothing. Still, tech support talks about how "data intensive" it all is. Frankly, that has me PO'd - I mean, I can't get it any more "thin". What am I supposed to cut back on? LII quotes? My ONE chart? MarketView? What's the point of all this fancy software, if you can't use it?

I don't know where the fault lies, but the net result is, that I do most of my trading with Datek - cheaper, more reliable, and most important - more profitable.
