I'll agree with your opinion that NT is pretty darn stable although we've been able to crash it on occasion. The key is in the fact that it doesn't try to share RAM locations and when you shut down a program it totally releases that memory where as the DOS-based OS's don't always do that which eventually leads to conflicts and trying to use the /temp file on the hard drive as extra memory. OS/2 is solid as a rock but very few people support it anymore, thus we've been forced into NT as we have a ton of software that can be transported from CISC to RISC with some recompiling but a move to xUNIX would be far more cost extensive. Every penny counts in the corporate world and our job is to try to save every penny we can but we also have to look very far into the future as to potential and ongoing expenses on everything. We have to perform cost analyses, present them to the proper authorities, eventually discuss them, write the darn things up again, re-discuss them, submit purchase requisitions (which also enter into discussions upstairs) and possibly, maybe, we'll get the chain of approval done after even more discussion. I'm getting better at it, found an HP token ring card for an E-size plotter for about 28% less than anyone else was willing to sell it to us for including HP itself, on a $500 card that's a lot of money despite how big the corporation is. There's a lot of other things but you know how it is with new blood - we tend to work our ass off but I'll guarantee you that unless I'm chasing the girls around (or learning a lot of things I never knew) (or cleaning out rooms) (or bringing munchies) (or "having fun" with people) (or moving furniture around to where it should be) (or just flat getting things done) (etc. etc.) I always have a long list of things to take care of. One of these days I'll get too old to work, I hope it's a long time from now as I love what I'm doing. If I didn't know better I'd swear Ben put me up to this job.
