I am confused. i thought the DEC deal was to have a positive impact on earnings. Mason said inventory was under control. EP promised dell like delivery capabilites two years ago.

Who is running this ship? Where are all the benefits of DEC, enterprise strategy and SMB? This sounds like SOS. We are not getting the right skinney.

Re: "Stock Picker Sunday" - My vote would be IATV. Interactive Television, where you can view multiple angles of the same sports broadcast at the touch of a button (pick your camera view, see a replay whenever you want, etc.) - they also have a HyperTV application that is supposed to integrate web & tv. Stock has shot from 2 or so (September) to 20 (close last Friday), mostly due to associations with Liberty Media/TCI. Got some press in the LA Times last week. Before I heard about CPQ's warning, I joked with my wife that my "little tv stock" would soon catch CPQ. Didn't think it would happen on Monday.

But then again, I'm biased because my meager holdings in IATV have counterbalanced my losses in CPQ... Fortunately (or unfortunately, however you look at it), I'm a grad student so it's not like I have as many shares of CPQ as you guys - only 150.

victor,

My only comment is "do not catch a falling knife"

Any of the 4 horsemen (INTC, MSFT, CSCO, DELL), if dragged down temporarily and drastically by CPQ, would be a BUY. But I doubt CSCO or even MSFT would be affected much--not from viewing Friday's Instinet actions.

Cpq's problems--much of them company specific--are deep ingrained. Unless the senior managment changes hands, I doubt much progress can be made.

victor...I see everyone is still
bracing for the "DEEP TECH IMPACT" on Monday.

I've been trying to build an Ark.
My stocks are going on "two by two".

I've also stocked my "Yardeni" cellar with provisions.

The impact will be felt earlier in the UK.
Let us know about the tremors.

Loki

STOCK PICKER SUNDAY
Hello Victor, still recovering from the Friday night's special on
COMPAQ and thinking about how to play it in the next few days. As
shown by differing views, it is going to be very difficult to play
COMPAQ itself right on Monday. Clearly they will be collateral damage
to whole sector and I see two levels:
a) Buy on weakness clear winners: CSCO, SUNW, MSFT and INTC.
Of this four, I can't imagine big price gaps on the first three so
they are only a hope. INTC is interesting because it will be associated with the PC sector and will have some damage no doubt. I
inted to buy INTC aggresively on weakness based on compelling value,
stock split effective on Monday morning, earning release on Tuesday,
earnings whisper a@ $1.15 i.e. 5% above consensus and, guess what,
Kumar's strong support on Friday (he used to work at INTC and said earnings will be better than expected)
b) Buy on weakness early recovery plays: ORCL and COMS. Both stocks
are among the five most oversold in the Morgan Tech Index (which includes PSFT, CPQ and MU) but were gaining momentum on Friday after clear double bottoms on Wednesday and Thursday. They have nothing to
do with CPQ.
I am not sure how to play DELL. At a certain level it may be a good short
term play but frankly I need to understand more the reasons behind CPQ's failure.
You have all my support re the kelleys and the piccolinos of this world. I have no problem with shorties but a big one with little men that did not show respect and were laughing at other people's miseries.
Nice afternoon here in central London.

STOCK-PICKER SUNDAY entry. I try to limit my ideas to one at a time, so allow me to suggest Qualcomm for consideration.

QCOM is an emerging Gorilla (as in MONOPOLY) now that they have swept aside the last holdout, Ericsson, for the enabling technology for wireless voice and data protocol. The revenue stream from CDMA licensing should propel qcom's price upwards by a factor of at least 25 over the next 5 years. They report next week, and there are rumors of a 3:1 stock split.

IMHO, qcom is a fantastic long term hold opportunity, and a bargain at today's price.
