HI Michael, I agree, it seems to me one has a great reason to get up early tomorrow, to see how things open, may be a marvy opp. to get poots...Makes me wonder what the spin doctors are thinking now...I think of the avg broker who may not even know about cpq yet...like the guy I dined with recently...dell, msft forever kinda talk...dunno how they'll 'splain it. My bud who bought cpq at record prices has resigned himself to the long run...but he did tell me painless downgraded it to neutral...Wonder what a guy like that can say if cpq makes it to barmitzvah territory...(13)...How do you tell someone the stock you just bought at 50 is now a teenager...

Mike,

I was just scanning through the DELL thread - many of those "investors" would drink purple Kool-Aid if MD told them to line up.

Analyst says its Compaq specific.

From CNNfn: "Lou Mazzucchelli, an analyst at Gerard Klauer Mattison, said Compaq's problems lie with its gross margins, meaning sales of its high-end - and high-margin - PC server products were weaker than expected. "Maybe their product mixture changed in a way that was different from what they expected,"
Mazzucchelli said. "They're not that far off our revenue forecast, and I don't think expenses are out of control. Perhaps they were selling too many low-cost computers that have bad margins."
Mazzucchelli added that other companies are able to sell low-cost units without taking such a drastic hit to their margins.
"You can't translate this to everyone in the (PC) group," he said. "This should be Compaq-specific."

MB, on another topic, sort of ...what price if any would 3COM or Oracle look good to you. Both have taken a big hit, and if you doubted the BK was imminent, might they be worth a few $ soon?

They're having a small problem right now in the futures market.

I went out today to look at some new computers. IBM is clearing out its i1411 Thinkpad for $1499 at Best Buy. It sports a 12.1" TFT, 300 MHz Pentium, 32MB RAM, 4.3 GB HD, 56k MODEM, sound/speakers and a 24x CD-ROM. For $400 more, I can get a 1451 with 13.3TFT and 64MB RAM. Have to get rid of the Lotus smartsuite of course.

Then I went out to over the Celerons. HP has a C366 for $799 at Best Buy ($846 at CPU and OD). Specs are almost identical to the EMachine 366i at $599. Very interesting. C400 from EMachine coming fairly soon at the $599 price level with same specs as 366i.

I don't need to replace my Dell Latitude XPi quite yet, but at these prices, but at these prices I can see that my new notebook will be a Thinkpad. Very nice equipement,IMO.

Michael,

RE: Intel vs. AMD
Report from PC World magazine - K6-III vs. PIII

(K6-III)"performed as well as Pentium III's that run at higher clock speeds. In other words, the fastest K6-III 400 performed like a Pentium III 450, and the fastest K6-III 450 performed like a Pentium III 500. Never the less, you should be able to find K6-III PCs selling for $300 to $600 less than comparable PIII systems."

They report this to be true especially for business apps - however I am sure business would gladly pay that extra $300-$600 for units to have that little blue squirrely "Intel inside" sticker <G>.

Now, for more important things - $$$$$$$.
Thanks to you I'm looking for a gain Mon. on my CPQ Apr30 puts, however, the next play?
Looking at: COF Jun125 (COFRE) @ 2-2 1/4
Jun130 (COFRF) @ 2 11/16-2 7/8
Jun110 (COFRB) @ 9/16 is this one too far OTM??

LLTC Aug40 (LLQTH) again, is this one too far OTM?

and last but not least, MU. Been holding Apr40's (MUPH) but looking at the May40's. How much longer can they keep this MUffet up???

Any thoughts are greatly appreciated,
and thanks again for sharing your time and knowledge,

Bill/WA
