Re: "AOL and CMGI...up over 5 fold - why is INTC such a desirable stock?? railroad stocks were once most desirable - are CPU stocks in ...twilight phase???"

Jay, congrats on AOL & CMGI. How is your portfolio allocated? I'm curious.

Intel's probably desirable because it's a more conservative stock, more reliable in certain ways, and less popular right now (good!)

I don't believe Intel has reached its twilight phase and don't believe all the railroad tracks have been layed.

And I don't think it'll get knocked down like some Internuts may after a puff.

Regarding Internet stocks, it was only one year ago, some people were saying:

"e-commerce... amazon's not going to beat B&N"
"why would people want to use broadcast over the IP?"

Today they are saying,
"we now believe in etailing"
and you know about broadcast.com.

Bottom-line: listen to the customers, get orders, and build an industry that solves a problem...and for us that means invest in companies where the customers go.

I see a significant need for commercial customers to spend money for PCs with Intel's high-end chips (website servers, e-commerce, full-motion, etc.) I see the need for new technology with high-margins, but maybe we see these things differently. But I do agree with you about the Internuts and know some dismissed Amazon.com's biz model without reading the prospectus in 1997. Finally, when it was validated through execution, etailing became hot.
