A powerful scholarly consensus is converging on the uncomfortable recognition of the historical Jesus as an eschatologically deluded charismatic agitator operating wholly within the Jewish worldview of his period.

Wow, if these scholars are all Christian theologians, they had better convert to some other religion fast! Judaism clearly won't do (guilt by association). So what about something safely out of the mainstream -- Shamanism, perhaps? Oops -- a lot of delusion there. Zoroastrianism? Oops -- too much eschatology.

So, they'll probably have to settle for Buddhism. But none of that Pure Land stuff! No Maitreyas! Only Zen will do.
