I'm not sure that it would be fair to describe anyone as "escahatologically deluded". I get two definitions for "eschatological":

The doctrine of the last or final things, as death, judgment, and the events therewith connected.

The branch of theology that is concerned with such final things as death and judgment; heaven and hell; the end of the world.

Since nobody knows anything certain about these subjects, it would be unreasonable to dismiss anyone's ideas as delusion. Not, at least, until after the fact, at which point discussion of the subject will be rather difficult. I do hope that the fundamentalist eschatology is a delusion, but I would hesitate to pronounce it such with no tangible evidence in any direction.

Perhaps there was some confusion, and they meant to say "scatologically deluded".

How about, instead of praying futilely to a non-existent god for a cure for disease we search for new antibiotics and build quality sewage systems. Instead of praying futilely for a hurricane to veer from it's course we improve our satellite tracking, and database of previous storms, so that we can evacuate people in time. Instead of praying futilely for a volcano to stop spewing lava, we place instruments on those volcanos to help us learn more about them, so that we can evacuate people in time, and possibly even inform them that it is not wise to live on it's flanks. And how about, instead of praying futilely for rain to quench our thirsty crops we build irrigation canals, and plant wisely in arid regions.

In short, the answer is science, not believing in outdated mythologies that only serve to waste the time of millions of people that could be using their time to make a real contribution to society, rather than being a drag on it, and killing off those with different mythological beliefs. What a waste of millions of minds.

As far as morality, it is man who ultimately makes the laws based on past experiences, just as it was man who created the concept of god, conceived of in man's image, in the first place.
