I've been thinking about what you said, Ish. ANd I wonder if we are harder on Christians, judge them more harshly, becuase they claim to have The Truth. Most are no better and no worse than the rest of us.
But that's where they screw up. They forget that what they're holding out to us is the promise of redemption from the "sin" that blankets us all. They start seeing themselves as on a higher "goodness" level or something, thinking they ARE better.
Which is bullshit.
I know many non-believers who lead exemplary "Christian" lives. And Christians who do things I think are abominable.
But I'm finding a sense of caring and community now in this church that I haven't had since I left our old one. I'll let God (if He's there) deal with my soul; I value the attempt to DO right that I feel from the people. Maybe the trick is just not to expect too much from anyone.
