Okay Sidney, here's a simple one: go to Genesis 22. Now tell me after reading that, that God didn't lie. Now this one is a real stretch: The covenant with Abraham was fulfilled in Jesus Christ. God kept His word again. Seems to me that here we have a bellicose God making a promise he had no intention of keeping for a couple of thousand years (according to your explanation). Here's what it says that God promised Abraham: 1. to greatly multiply your descendants until they are as numerous as the stars in the sky and the grains of sand; [clearly unfulfilled] 2. your descendants shall possess the cities of their enemies; [what cities are those? who were the enemies] 3. all nations on earth shall pray to be blessed as your descendants are blessed. [another clearly unfulfilled promise] So what was in it for Abraham? Not much of a covenant. It didn't stop the Diaspora. It certainly didn't help European Jewry. Now suppose you came across a man who had tied his son up and was preparing to kill him with a knife. Would you accept this fellow's explanation that God told him to do it, and it's okay. Would you just walk away and say to yourself: "Sure, it's okay." I bet not. I bet you'd wrestle the knife from the hand of that lunatic and call the nearest cop. I bet you would outraged if a judge let that lunatic out on the street. TTFN, CTC

Okay Sidney, here's what God promised Cain: if anyone kills Cain, Cain shall be avenged seven-fold. Presumably this refers also to all of Cain's descendants. So who are these guys? We know that the moved somewhere east of Eden. And we know that the last descendant discussed prior to the flood was Lamech, and for some reason retribution increased to 77 fold. Where are they today? Well, let's see: Lamech had a son named Noah, and the rest is history, no? Didn't God then lay waste to the entire world. So if we are all descendants of Cain it's not much of a promise. But I must admit to great confusion here. Perhaps you can help me. Is Lamech of the Cain story the same Lamech who was Noah's father. I only ask this because in my Bible they seem to have two different fathers. One is named Mathuselah (grandfather of Noah) but a descendant of Seth. The other was Methushael, a descendant of Cain.
