It looks like they are reporting last weeks news on Ciena (The post that is), related to the SEC filings. I haven't found any other release about slower sales with sprint.....nothing that they haven't said already. Didn't they subsequently retract that statement in any case? I thought Sprint had "changed their mind" about not going with Ciena this year....R

Bill,

That does not bode well for CIEN in the short term. I wonder if touting the Sprint contract all the while knowing of a pending slowdown raises any other issues...Meanwhile, they purchased 2 companies using stock value during this process.

Thanks for the article,

Brian

Let's be clear: While the Sprint statement was not good news, Ciena did not lose its business to Lucent. Sprint has been a heavy buyer of DWDM from Ciena for the last two years--and they have never chosen a second source supplier. They simply have gotten their fill for now, and their purchases in '99 will be mostly upgrades on their installed base. Therefore, Ciena was disclosing that fact in their 8k. If you go to the original source, there is no need to speculate.
